Frances Luke Accord Plays Official Showcase at Folk Alliance International on February 15

Frances Luke Accord will follow up their fall national tour with Darlingside with an official showcase at Folk Alliance International’s 2017 conference. The showcase will take place on Wednesday, February 15th at 9:45pm at the Pershing South stage of the Westin Crown Center Hotel in Kansas City. The duo will also embark on their first headlining tour of the East Coast and Midwest this spring, with dates to be announced in February.

Frances Luke Accord quietly entered the national spotlight since the release of their debut LP, Fluke (May 2016), when they supported and accompanied Darlingside on their 26-show national tour last fall. The duo’s stunning LP and live show also earned them performances on NPR’s Mountain Stage Radio Show and AudioTreeTV. The combination of the duo’s carefully arranged acoustic ensembles, poetic songwriting, and soaring vocal harmonies has drawn comparisons to The Milk Carton Kids, Iron & Wine, and Simon & Garfunkel.

Frances Luke Accord embody the theme of this year’s Folk Alliance International Conference, which celebrates activism in art. Gunty and Powers’ first release, Kandote, was an intercultural collaboration with the Barefoot Truth Children’s Choir of Kkindu, Uganda. Recorded in rural east Africa during their senior year at the University of Notre Dame, the not-for-profit project serves not only to bridge a cultural divide that is often lacking in contemporary American folk music, but also as a means of putting resources back into the choir’s education, through a product of their own hand—or rather, voice.

Both dedicated multi-instrumentalists and meticulous songwriters, Nicholas Gunty and Brian Powers distinguish their music with genre fluidity, buttery harmonies and acoustic ensembles.
