Young Readers will bring their creative, acoustic music to the 20th annual North by Northeast Music Festival.  On Thu. Jun 13 at 11 PM Young Readers will be performing at the Magpie Taproom set among other artists like Majical Cloudz, Wintersleep, Calexico, and hundreds more.

Within a year, Young Readers have played over 100 shows including performances at SXSW, the Kahbang Music Festival and Norman Music Festival. Family Trees won “Top Ten Best Local Albums of 2012” in the Oklahoma Gazette. They were asked to contribute the Postal Service song We Will Become Silhouettes for a compilation honoring the 10 year anniversary of Give Up. Later this spring, they will release a single/B-Side via Lorem Ipsum Recordings in Portland, Maine.

While attending college for music composition, Young Readers’ Jordan Herrera was told from a professor that he did not belong in school and instead should focus on his music.  This is the passion that directly correlates into Young Readers’ music.  Their debut EP, Family Trees, takes you on a nostalgic and timeless journey guided by Jordan’s soft vocals and gentle acoustic riffs.  The EP is printed on construction paper and each copy comes with a box of crayons so the listeners can personally design the album art. The interactivity instilled by the album cover represents the musical content within; it is metaphorical and also insinuate the interactivity and creative alertness in the listener.
