Staff Infection: Hey Ladies!

Although the world of rock and roll is still predominately a man's man's man's world (thanks, James Brown), that doesn't mean there aren't plenty of ladies kicking airwaves and taking names these days. It was tough to narrow down the list to a select few, but I've managed to put together a short mix of the feisty females who have infiltrated my stereo over the past few weeks:

1. Adele - "Rolling in the Deep"

2. Best Coast - "When I'm With You"

3. Florence + The Machine - "Dog Days Are Over"

4. Janelle Monae - "Tightrope"

I've also been rocking a few of my long standing girl crushes:

Jenny Lewis - "You Are What You Love"

Metric - "Gimme Sympathy"

Feist - "1234"

Janelle is the owner of Green Light Go. When she's not spreading the word on her favorite bands she can usually be found riding her road bike through Michigan, designing super hip clothes or analyzing people much to their dismay.

what a great list of up and coming female artist. allow me to add the Sons and Daughters, Neko Case, Telepathic Liberation Army and Visqueen. However, lest we forget the arrived and established ones too – Loretta Lynn, Wanda Jackson ( both getting some encouragement from jack white), France gall, and the like. thanks Lauren, I hate saying it but sometimes us girls have to stick together.

Mary, Right on with Visqueen. Rachel Flotard is a powerhouse. I’d also add Brandi Carlile, Rachael Yamagata and Sharon Van Etten to this list.
