Oy Vey's New Single Looks at the Crazy Side of Love Available For Free

Madly in love. It's a phrase we've all heard, but rarely is it taken to mean actual madness. Oy Vey's latest single, "When I Was Young", a lushly cinematic tune built on layer after layer of synth, delves into that crazy place where love turns to insanity.

"I think it's about those times when you're in over your head for someone," says Bryce Aubrey, one half of Oy Vey. "At first it's euphoric, but little by little it makes you do things you're not proud of. It turns you into someone strange." Oy Vey, whose other principle member is vocalist/keyboardist/producer Kevin Corcoran, has produced with "When I Was Young" a club track with a twist, a hook embedded in moody orchestration, all underlying the story of a man whose efforts to impress a girl have taken him into the realm of megalomaniacal silliness- the place 007 villains are born from.

"When I Was Young" is just one of thirteen tracks on Recession Girls that deals with relationships in the age of economic downturn. "This album is a concept album about how the troubling developments of the past few years had directly affected the relationships that we were finding ourselves in," says Kevin Corcoran, one half of Oy Vey. "Namely instilling them with massive doubts about self-worth and the prospect of building a future with anyone in such a world".

"Oy Vey tries to pursue the most aggressively poppy music we can," says Kevin Corcoran (keyboard/vocals). One listen to their debut album, Botanical Curiosity (mastered at Sterling Sound in New York by Steve Fallone) and it's clear that the duo has accomplished its goal. The album takes bedroom rock to a new level with its blend of with bright pop melodies, solid rock instincts and inventive electronic accents. Think MGMT meets Fleetwood Mac. Corcoran and Aubrey have been collaborating since high school, most recently from separate cities. "We'd always dabbled in a variety of genres, mostly based on singer/songwriter stuff," Corcoran explains. "For Oy Vey, we focused in on danceable pop-rock with electronic flourishes. Since we're both music junkies, we were inspired by a wide range of artists including Bowie, Fleetwood Mac, MGMT, Arcade Fire and Daft Punk. We wanted to make music that was energetic and outgoing."
