Magnet Features Young Readers’ Serene Folk Jam “Boxcar” on MP3 at 3PM

Young Readers captivated Magnet with their dreamy indie folk. "Boxcar," the first single off the Family Trees EP, was featured on Magnet’s MP3 at 3PM. The magazine was also impressed by the DIY album artwork that comes with the Family Trees EP. "The creative DIY efforts of [Young Readers’ Jordan] Herrera are undeniable considering that each EP sleeve was printed on construction paper and came with a box of crayons, urging us all to create our own album art," Magnet wrote.

As is the case with "Boxcar," there is almost always a dreamy or imaginary quality to Young Readers’ indie folk songs; a sense that reality is suspended, even if for a few minutes. While Young Readers’ Jordan Herrera was attending Oklahoma State University for music composition, a private instructor told him he did not belong in school. She promised she would overlook his absences and give him good grades as long as he promised in return to focus on music and not so much on school. The next semester he dropped out, recorded the Family Trees EP and went on tour the same day it was released.

Within a year, Young Readers played over 100 shows including performances at SXSW, the Kahbang Music Festival and Norman Music Festival. Later this spring, they will release a single/B-Side via Lorem Ipsum Recordings in Portland, Maine.
