James Rose Announces Single, “Head for the Coast”
From out of the haze of a dimly lit Los Angeles bar comes the buzzing music of James Rose. His new single, “Head for the Coast” is a swirling combination of psychedelic melodies, punctuated instrumentation, and sonic intonation that draws inspiration from across the globe. It’s like standing on the beaches of California, while staring into a cloudy sky in Liverpool. “Head for the Coast” is the first single off of Rose’s upcoming EP, Lullabies to the Ocean, due out July 27.
A geographical depth is threaded throughout his songcraft. He was born and currently lives in Los Angeles, resided for some time in New Orleans, and draws from family roots in the UK. Rose uses a lot of natural imagery that is steeped in a novel of metaphorical occurrences. “Head for the Coast” echos the sunny west coast vibe while subconsciously embedding itself into the laid back sounds of New Orleans. Buzzing amplifiers compliment swirling guitar riffs that groove through aqueous hooks. Recorded with on a Tascam 388 8 Track reel to reel tape recorder, the single has an intimate and handmade polish that stays true to Rose’s genuine personality.
Lullabies to the Ocean is an album dedicated to the ocean. After spending 10 years in New Orleans, Rose began to crave the pacific coast. Looking for an opportunity to create a consistent change for the better, he made the journey home to California. The collection of songs symbolizes a huge life change in body, mind, and spirit. It’s about overcoming self-sabotage and finding the true nature of one’s being. Rose explains, “I have always found pleasure in the romance of being a writer and constantly working on something lost in another world. I love the idea of pens and notebooks and playing with words to create unique imagery symbolizing different aspects of human behaviour. Creating the music to accompany the feeling and movement of the words is 100% pure joy and it is one of the only true personal fulfilments of my life.”
