Jack Wilson Releases Supremely Honest New Track “Rainbow/Tiger”

Austin indie-folk musician Jack Wilson is known for his ability to transport a listener to a point in time. With outlets including Relix and American Songwriter latching on to the work on his latest album, Spare Key, there’s no doubt this strategy works. His latest single off the album, “Rainbow/Tiger,” contains the same gentle strings and harmonies, lulling melodies and contemplative lyrics of past singles, while managing to be the most honest single to date. Wilson says, “I wanted to be supremely honest, for once, in a song. I had come out of a hard year and a real desperate feeling for real closeness. The Rainbow Tiger was an outlet, a stand in for my hopeful escape from the doldrums.”

Spare Key is the follow up to Wilson’s self-titled album, released in 2012 also on Fluff and Gravy. Jack Wilson was well received by media, including KEXP and VICE. While the previous album was recorded in Seattle and leaned towards a Neil Young-esque rock sound, Spare Key has a sound reminiscent of Elliot Smith, with slightly different influences and recording taking place in Austin. “It’s funny that being in Seattle, almost brought more of my Texan-ness to the fore. Being home in Austin, I’m drawn further back in my subconscious for inspiration.”
