Angela Perley & the Howlin’ Moons to Release Hey Kid January 21, 2014 Album Gives Nod to Classic Hollywood
Angela Perley & the Howlin’ Moons blows a kiss with Americana grit to classic Hollywood and in particular Casablanca’s infamous line, “Here’s looking at you, kid,” with the release of their upcoming album, Hey Kid on Jan. 21, 2014 through Vital Music USA.
Their debut album release, Hey Kid, reflects a vulnerability and fearlessness. And as a new and upcoming band, in a way they are the “kid” speaking out and expressing how they feel. The album features a collection of songs that deliver a great balance of fun and gritty to stripped down acoustic tunes, calling to the romantic who feels love’s rollercoaster. The first single, “Hurricane” is a tug of war attraction song where love is acting like a hurricane. It’s aggressive, moody, and romantic all in a swirl of emotions. “Athens”, the slow-burning rocker, is an ode to the Ohio city that played a crucial role in Perley’s development as a songwriter and person. “Ghost”, which features a phantom pedal steel guitar and keys, harkens on that feeling of wanderlust, and searching for that untouchable dream. It’s an empowering song and has a lot of determination in it even though the end goal is not certain.
There is something magnetic, vulnerable, dangerous, and electric about 27-year-old Angela Perley. Growing up in small town Ohio, Perley spent years as an observant wallflower engrossing herself in poetry, literature, people, and films. Perley’s band features longtime friends Billy Zehnal and Chris Connor on bass and lead guitar and her high school friend Steve Rupp on drums. Since their incarnation in 2009, the band has released four EPs on Vital Music USA and has toured extensively playing NXNE, Nelsonville Music Festival and Midpoint Music Festival. The group’s 2012 release, Nowhere is Now Here, garnered praise from tastemakers including My Old Kentucky Blog, Americana UK and Twang Nation among others.
