GLG Fresh MP3 Friday: SXSW Kickoff

SXSW will be flourishing with musicians, artists, publicists, producers and actors of all varieties; no discrimination within this flourishing crowd. Today is the start of SXSW’s Film Week, which overlaps Music Week, running from Mar. 15-20. Matthew Dunehoo, of Baby Teardrops, combines his talents as both actor and musician, a triple threat when taking his piercing blue eyes into consideration. From an actor/musician perspective, Dunehoo hears color and sees sound. Not an easy task, unless artistically inclined. After a few conversations with him and The Sewing Circle, another GLG band, we wondered what SXSW film they would add one of their tracks to.

Film: “BAD FEVER” by Dustin Guy Defa

Matthew Dunehoo from Baby Teardrops

Song: "ME Where" from X is for Love

"I was attracted to 'BAD FEVER' because of the compelling appearance of the two main characters, and the dusky subrubindustrial landscapes much of the short seems to be shot in.  Large, '80s model automobiles and the way sunlight looks, refracted as dusk through their windshields. 'ME Where' is about the effort of focusing one's attention on someone else, when in reality, we all know this is all but impossible."

"The idea of the protagonist of the film's 'eternal longing to find someone, anyone, who understands or even pretends to understand' is copacetic with the tone of 'ME Where'. Come with me, please, let's unlock our magical potential together. Someone? Anyone? 'ME Where'?"

Film: "The City Dark”

The Sewing CircleSong: "Buzz Light-Year” from I Saw Stars
Release date: 5/10/11

Although The Sewing Circle will not be performing at this year’s SXSW, their song “Buzz Light-Year” is perfect for this film.

“'Buzz Light-Year' references space and space exploration which would fit well with the film's search for the night sky and connection with the stars."
